About Burnside Pizzeria

Burnside Pizzeria Fresh Market has been part of the Burnside Industrial Park in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia since 1991. What started as an 850-square-foot storefront on Ilsley Avenue, opened by Abe and Joanne Chater with no professional pizza-making experience, has grown into a 2,600-square-foot restaurant and fresh market known across Dartmouth for its pan pizza, donairs, and Lebanese specialties.

Everything on our menu is prepared the way it always has been: sauces made from scratch, fresh ingredients, and recipes that blend Italian, Lebanese, and Canadian cooking under one roof. Following renovations after Hurricane Juan in 2004, we expanded into our current space and took on our full name, Burnside Pizzeria Fresh Market, adding a selection of daily fresh items, snacks, and marketplace products alongside our hot food menu.

Today, the business is run by Abe and Joanne’s son Andrew Chater, who — like his three older siblings — grew up in the restaurant. More than three decades later, the Chater family is still behind the counter, and the same commitment to fresh, made-from-scratch food is what keeps Dartmouth coming back.
